How fit do I need to be to Walk with the Hawke?

You should have clearance from your doctor to walk several times per week to participate.

Your goal is individual to you - it may be walking twice a week, every day, or somewhere in between.

For me, my experience in Operation Boot Camp has been a game-changer, in terms of self-confidence and fitness.

At the same time, I see people who either cannot run as much as we do in Boot Camp, are not interested in running, or are not quite to the point where that would be a healthy activity for them. So I wanted to offer the same sense of community, fun, accountability, and success for people interested in a walking program.

I have clearance to walk, but I'm worried that I'm so slow I will hold up the group.

You will never be walking alone as the "caboose"! Group walks mean you will always have someone with you.
You can walk at your desired pace, as others walk faster; then when they reach a certain point ahead of you, I'll signal them to circle back around the last person. That way fast and slow walkers still walk together and are challenged appropriately.

Can I Walk with a Stroller?

For group walks: Absolutely!

We welcome our new moms and moms-to-be!

For buddy walks during the week: Yes, as long as it's fine with your walking partner.

What type of accountability will I be held to in the program?

Based on our goal setting session, I will know how many walks per week you commit to.

I'll check in with you each day that you have a walk to see how it went.  I offer encouragement, cheer for you, and let you know where you are in terms of your goal.  If you miss a walk I talk to you about what happened and what you can do differently next time to ensure success. I'm on your side!

Can I bring my dog?

For group walks: Yes! Leashed pups are welcome.

For buddy walks during the week: Yes, as long as it's fine with your walking partner.

What is the goal setting session like?

This conversation is all about YOU!  We'll meet for coffee or get on a call and discuss where you are in your health journey and where you'd like to be. Then, we'll decide how many walks a week you'll need to get there. We'll also discuss what kind of support you need and find most effective when working on a goal.

How does the buddy aspect of Walk with the Hawke work?

Studies show that people who exercise with a buddy or in a group stick to their program and enjoy it more than those who exercise alone.

The frequency, location, time, and pace of the partner walks are based on your personal goal.

For example, your goal might be to walk 3x a week for 30 minutes each time.  Someone else's goal might be to walk 6x a week for 1 hour each time.

I will match you up based on your goals, your location, and your desired pace; you will be assigned a partner for the first partner walk.

After this, you will schedule subsequent walks with that buddy and/or with other Hawke Walkers you meet at the first Group Walk.

You are not locked into one walking buddy, you may have multiple buddies - e.g. 60 minutes with Mary on Monday nights, 30 minutes with Stephanie on Tuesday afternoons, etc.

The weekly group walks will be planned for everyone to walk together, based on the days/times that work best for participants.
